Caring for Your Washing Machine
Chemical additives from detergent and fabric softener can leave an unpleasant odor in your washing machine. We recommend the following simple rules to help you keep your washing machine tidy and clean. To get rid of unpleasant odors, use a non-abrasive scouring pad. Fill the bleach compartment with chlorine and add a measure of detergent. Select a high temperature setting and a main wash cycle. After the cycle is complete, rinse the tub. For dry cleaning, select a hot water cycle with one quart of vinegar, this is enough once a quarter. Do not add clothes to this cycle. During hot weather and high humidity, keep the lid open when the machine is not in use.
Mounting the Dryer
When mounting your dryer, it is advisable to mount it as close to the outside of the building as possible. Here's why: A standard 8 kg load of laundry weighs 40% more after washing and spinning. This means your dryer must evaporate about 3.2 liters of water. Excessive moisture causes mold and other problems inside the laundry room. Therefore, mounting a commercial dryer to the outside is necessary. There are several types of steam vent materials available, listed in order of preference:
1. Metal pipe - aluminum, steel, or galvanized steel is highly recommended.
2. Flexible metal - acceptable.
3. Corrugated thin foil tubing - not acceptable.
4. Flexible plastic - not acceptable.
Facts To Consider Underwriters Laboratories Inc, an independent testing agency that regulates national safety requirements, requires that dryer manufacturers "include explicit instructions specifying that only rigid or flexible metal tubing should be used for steam venting unless the appliance has been tested for use with non-metallic tubing." Maytag and other major dryer makers discourage the use of flexible plastic tubing (including metal-plastic tubing). Although flexible plastic pipe is inexpensive and easy to install, follow the manufacturer's instructions. If possible, use 4-inch diameter steel or aluminum pipe. Smaller diameter pipe is not recommended. If flexible metal pipe is used, a heavy-wall type is required. Do not use thin-wall flexible pipe made of foil. Never use plastic pipe. Do not install the dryer vent into any wall, ceiling, concealed area of a building, basement, gas main, or any other common flue or pipe. Avoid unnecessary bends in the pipe during installation.
Long Drying Cycle Times
Long drying times cannot be a problem with your dryer! There's nothing wrong with the dryer! In fact, drying time can depend on many reasons: type and size, thickness of the garment, fiber content, etc. In general, 6 bath towels will take approximately 40-50 minutes to dry in the dryer, including cooling time. Pants, slacks, shirts, shorts, dresses, etc. will take 30-40 minutes to dry. Larger loads with longer cooling cycles result in longer drying times. Cooling occurs at the end of the cycle, the laundry is mixed without heat to minimize creasing. Additionally, some dryers offer additional agitation without high heat to allow laundry to be picked up when needed. Using a pipe with a smaller diameter (see point 2) makes it difficult to remove steam and increases drying time. Clean the filter after EVERY drying cycle as clogged filters will restrict airflow. Use the dryer for its intended purpose according to the instructions. When drying, it is necessary to sort the laundry. Items that take a long time to dry (terry towels) and linens that dry faster should not be loaded at the same time. Overloading can increase drying time; for high-quality drying, free space is necessary for the rotation of the laundry and the free passage of air flow. Violation of the rules causes uneven drying or, conversely, over-drying of the laundry. High drying temperatures may cause fabric to wrinkle.
How water temperature affects washing results
Water temperature affects the washing results, along with several other interacting factors. Three main factors are: the mechanical action of the washing machine on the laundry, the chemical action of detergents – bleaches and other additives, and the thermal action of warm or hot water. Creating an optimal balance ensures high-quality washing. If any of these three factors is weakened, another must be strengthened. For example, cold water is used, there is no thermal energy, to maintain the same cleaning results, it is necessary to either increase the amount of detergent or increase the duration of the wash. However, prolonged washing can have negative effects, such as wear of the fabric. Warm water increases the effectiveness of the detergent. Chemical reactions at high temperatures occur faster, the effectiveness of the detergent and other additives increases. If the water temperature is low (below 20 ° C), it is necessary to use liquid detergent. The optimal washing temperature for most fabrics is 40-50 ° C. For the best washing results, use a quality washing powder. Do not wash white and colored laundry, different in weight and fiber composition at the same time. For crease-free washing, we recommend the following: Use a constant cycle in the washing machine (hot water for cotton fabrics), i.e. the washing modes recommended for a particular type of laundry. Load the machine with dry, unfolded clothes. Do not use force when loading the laundry into the washing machine. It is recommended to use a load slightly less than the maximum capacity.
